ITSPEC (NETWORK) (Title 5)

The purpose of this position is to serve as a project leader for major network projects relating to the Wide Area Network (WAN) and Local Area Network (LAN) systems. The incumbent functions as the technical coordinator or technical specialist on issues relating to the WAN/LAN systems and their integration with the network. DUTIES:
List not all inclusive. Responsible for ensuring the correct configuration of network devices. Develops methods and procedures and coordinates corrective action to optimize network performance. Researches, tests and evaluates software packages which provide performance measurements of the WAN. Develops the standard configuration software loads for all network devices. Develops benchmarks and performance measurements and evaluation data to manage network servers and data communication devices to support normal and surge workload. Develops and maintains documentation regarding network configuration, operating procedures, necessary to maintain the reliability of the network. Coordinates appropriate action to ensure backup processes are completed. Develops plans and procedures for remote installation of applications and upgrades using state of the art software distribution methods. Oversees the distribution of applications and upgrades ensuring compliance with regulations and copyright laws. Establishes procedures to maintain accurate records of authorized users of distributed software. Serves as network administrator responsible for configuring hubs, and switches, monitoring network performance, performing network diagnostics, analyzing network traffic patterns; and installing network software fixes and upgrades. Conducts performance tuning activities designed to optimize data management processes and recommends performance enhancements such as increasing storage capacity or modifying interfaces. To qualify for the GS-12 you most have IT-related experience demonstrating each of these competencies:

AND one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade (GS-11) in the federal service or three (3) years equivalent experience in the private or public sector which includes broad experience in several programming languages including but not limited to Dot Net, C programming languages, Java Script, Python, Power Shell, LINUX Shell scripting, Oracle APEX, SQL, PLSQL, or T-SQL, developing and implementing Backup and Recovery plans, implementation of security provisions to authorized access and integrity, monitoring and tuning requirements for optimization of performance, and definition and allocation of storage capacity requirements. Implementation of regulatory or industry security standards and guidelines. Design, implementation, exercise and documentation of Recovery operations. Test new software and implements updates and changes. Knowledge of LINUX and Microsoft Windows operating systems. Must have in enterprise level Developer Certification (ie. Java, Microsoft MCSD, Oracle PLSQL OCP). OR Applicant must have a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree OR 3 full years of progressively high level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks. Must submit transcripts. REQUIRED IT CERTIFICATION:
This position conducts information assurance functions. The incumbent shall comply with the requirements of the certification program requirements outlined in DoD instruction 8570.01-M. The incumbent will be required to obtain and maintain certification within six (6) months of hiring. Submit copies of IT certifications if available PART-TIME OR UNPAID
Experience:
Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid work on the same basis as for paid experience. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. To receive credit for such experience you must indicate clearly the nature of the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the number of hours per week spent in such employment.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
